Dogodoro

Focus in short sprints.
Your dog keeps you company.

Dogodoro is a free Pomodoro timer with a virtual pet. Work for 25 minutes, rest for 5, and earn a bone for every session you finish.

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time-management method created by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. He used a tomato-shaped kitchen timer, and pomodoro is Italian for tomato.

The idea is simple: split your work into focused intervals, traditionally 25 minutes, separated by short breaks. Each interval is one "pomodoro". Working against a visible clock makes it easier to begin, to ignore distractions, and to see how much you actually got done.

People use it for studying, writing, coding, admin, and anything else that is easy to put off. It works because it turns a vague, big task into a series of small, finishable ones.

The method in five steps

  1. Pick one task
Decide the single thing you will work on. Write it down. Vague goals make for wandering sessions.
  2. Start a 25-minute focus session
Work on that task only. If something else pops into your head, jot it down and get back to work.
  3. Stop when the timer rings
Even mid-sentence. The hard stop is what makes the next session feel fresh.
  4. Take a 5-minute break
Stand up, drink water, look out of a window. Do not open another screen full of tasks.
  5. Repeat, then take a longer break
After four focus sessions, rest for 15 to 30 minutes before starting the next set.

How Dogodoro works

Bones, streaks and a heatmap

Every finished focus session earns a bone. Set a daily goal and watch your streak and yearly heatmap grow in Settings, under Stats.

A dog that reacts

Your dog focuses with you, gets sleepy late at night, celebrates when you finish, and looks sheepish if you wander off to another tab.

Outfits from your task

Type what you are working on. Words like code, write, study, or clean change your dog's outfit. You can override it any time.

Breaks that help

Each break shows one small tip: stretch, water, eyes away from the screen. Turn on Home Gym mode (G) for workout prompts.

Day and night

The look follows your clock: bright by day, warm in the evening, dark at night. Choose when night starts in Settings.

Alarms you will hear

Pick from six alarm sounds, set the volume, repeat it until you stop it, and get a pop-up and system notification.

Parking lot

Press D to park a stray thought without leaving your focus session. Review it on your break.

Tips for better sessions

  • Silence your phone and close tabs you do not need before you start.
  • Make the task small enough to finish in one to four sessions.
  • Use breaks to move and rest your eyes, not to scroll.
  • If you finish early, review or polish until the timer rings.
  • Track the bones, not the perfection. A streak is built from ordinary days.

Questions

Why 25 minutes?

It is long enough to make real progress and short enough that starting feels easy. Francesco Cirillo used 25 minutes in his original method, but it is a starting point. Change the lengths in Settings if another rhythm suits you better.

Do I have to keep the tab open?

Yes, keep Dogodoro open in a tab or window. It keeps correct time even when the tab is in the background, and it will play the alarm and send a notification when time is up.

Why did I not hear the alarm?

Browsers only allow sound after you have clicked or pressed a key on the page. Start the timer from the page once, and the alarm will work. Also check the alarm volume in Settings, under Sound, and use Preview to test it.

Why no system notification?

Allow notifications when your browser asks. Browsers only offer them on secure pages (https), so open the hosted version rather than a file on your computer if you want them. The in-app pop-up and the alarm work either way.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything is stored only in this browser. There are no accounts and nothing is sent to a server. You can export or erase it in Settings, under Data.

What if I get interrupted?

Pause, deal with it, and resume. If the interruption is long, reset the session. The method says to protect a session, but real life happens.
